An Eyewear Concept

VERT EYEWEAR

About this project

Vert, a circular economy concept brand.

In a world where consumerism and environmental concerns are becoming increasingly intertwined, brands and designers are searching for ways to create fashionable and sustainable products. VERT Eyewear, a concept brand created by Ben Rennie from RENY®Studio, aims to address this need by offering a line of eco-friendly eyewear crafted from recycled materials and bio acetate. This case study will examine how VERT Eyewear applied design thinking principles to create a unique, circular economy product that caters to the fashion needs of middle-aged consumers.

Background

As awareness of environmental issues grows, more consumers demand sustainable products that minimize their ecological footprint. Recognizing this trend, VERT Eyewear sought to develop a line of eyewear using recycled materials, such as DVDs, CDs, and bio acetate. The brand’s design, website, user experience, and overall brand direction were also developed by RENY®Studio, to create an ongoing case study that explores the use of sustainable materials in responsible production.

A bold brand that stands out.

The process

Applying Design Thinking to Vert

Empathize: The first step in the design thinking process involves understanding the needs of the target audience – middle-aged consumers who are conscious of their environmental impact and interested in fashionable eyewear. The design team researched and interviewed potential customers to understand their preferences and pain points.

Define: Based on the research; the design team identified the need for eco-friendly eyewear that is both stylish and functional. The challenge was developing a product that could compete with traditional eyewear offerings in design and performance while adhering to sustainable production principles.

Ideate: The team generated various ideas to address the defined problem, considering different materials, shapes, and styles that could meet the target audience’s requirements. They also explored innovative ways to incorporate recycled materials into the design without compromising quality or aesthetics.

Prototype: With a clear vision in mind, the team created a range of prototypes, experimenting with different combinations of recycled materials and bio acetate. These prototypes were tested for durability, comfort, and visual appeal to meet the target demographic’s needs.

Test: Finally, the prototypes were evaluated by potential customers, who provided feedback on the design, comfort, and overall appeal of the eyewear. This feedback was used to refine the product further, resulting in a final design that successfully balanced sustainability, fashion, and functionality.

VERT Eyewear represents the culmination of creativity, sustainability, and design thinking coming together to create a product that not only addresses the fashion needs of our target audience but also contributes to a greener future.
