Through our ongoing partnership with 1% for the Planet, RENY Digital has committed to supporting the Surfrider Foundation. We will continually support and aim to help prevent PEP 11.
PETROLEUM EXPLORATION PERMIT 11 is a licence for oil & gas exploration in our Sydney Basin due to expire in February 2021 – that’s right, just off our beaches between Manly and Newcastle. Mining companies ADVENT Energy, BPH; Bounty Oil Gas are now pushing for NOPTA (National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator) to approve a licence extension and change the title to allow drilling for oil and gas offshore. The decision, to be made by Minister for Resources, Keith Pitt MP, has been postponed from the February deadline, continuing to pose an imminent threat.
On December 7 2020, Surfrider Australia representatives and our friends pro-surfer Adrian Buchan, Patagonia and Surfers For Climate ambassador Belinda Baggs and community members of Save Our Coast travelled to Parliament House to raise our concerns about PEP11. After a paddle out in the (rather putrid) waters of Canberrra’s Lake Burley Griffin with the symbolic gas rig, we were joined by Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi and Senator Peter Whish-Wilson, independent Zali Steggall, Liberal MP Jason Falinski, Labor MPs Sharon Claydon MP, Emma McBride MP and Pat Conroy MP in a united message to Federal Resources Minister Keith Pitt, in declaring PEP11, an oil and gas exploration permit off our stunning and iconic NSW coast, not to be renewed.
The fight is not over, so please help us stop these fossil fools and protect our oceans.
